Dr. Koy M. Floyd, Research Professor, Department of Educational Administration and Policy Studies in the College of Education since 1992, served as Tarleton's first Vice President for Institutional Advancement from 1992 through 2007.  In that role, he provided leadership and supervision for the following departments: Development (including major gifts, annual fund, estate analysis, planned giving and all other giving options); Alumni Relations; Public Information; Publications and Graphic Design; Printing Center; Sports Information; and the Dora Lee Langdon Cultural and Educational Center in Granbury. He also worked in an advisory capacity to the president for the Tarleton State University Foundation, Inc., and the Tarleton Alumni Association. He secured both private and public funding to create Tarleton's W. K. Gordon Research Center and Museum at Thurber, Texas.  As principal author and director of Tarleton's"Culture of Excellence Capital Campaign," Dr. Floyd was responsible for organizing, coordinating, and managing all activities of the campaign.  The campaign exceeded it's goal of $40 million on July l, 2002, raising more than 42.9 million. Shortly after the arrival of Tarleton's new President in 2008, Dr. Floyd was asked to serve as Interim vice President for Institutional Advancement.  He returned to a full-time faculty position in the fall of 2009.

A former classroom teacher and school superintendent, and serving in leadership/administrative roles at James Madison University in Virginia, Austin Peay University in Tennessee, the University of Oklahoma, and the University of Tulsa, before arriving at Tarleton, Dr. Floyd's research interests include: leadership theory; resource allocation K-20; university/community relations; communication theory; and development activities. 

As Research Professor, Dr. Floyd teaches graduate courses in both the masters and doctoral programs, and works closely with graduate students on independent studies and dissertation design. A published scholar, Dr. Floyd has authored and/or edited over 40 articles and books and has been a featured speaker and presenter at a number of state, regional and national conferences.  He presented a paper at the Oxford Round Table at Oxford University in Oxford, England and provides consultation services for both public and private not-for-profit entities.   He co-edited a series of 4 editions of the Journal of Management Systems for the Association of Management. He served as guest co-editor for the Journal of Education Finance and for ten years served as Newsletter editor for the American Education Finance Association. He served as a member of the editorial advisory board for the Journal of Education Finance from 1975 thru 2009.
