Practical study designed to prepare the student for university life, aid in the development of skills for academic success, promote personal growth and responsibility, and encourage active involvement in the learning process from an individual college perspective.

Student Learning Outcomes (SLO’s)
- Students will evaluate evidence in analysis, interpretation or arguments.
- Students will synthesize varied components of information to form a rational conclusion.
- Students will express ideas in written, visual or oral forms to a range of diverse audiences in multiple settings.
- Student will demonstrate an understanding of ethical standards as applied to decision-making.
- Students will demonstrate an understanding of basic financial literacy, including budgeting, managing debt and credit, saving and investing, preventing identity theft and retirement planning. [University personal other than the instructor of record are directing and assessing the students for this Learning Outcome.]
Applied Learning Experience (ALE) component
To be exposed to opportunities for applied learning experiences within this academic discipline or major.
The student is to use the Resources Critical Reflection sections at the R.E.A.L. web portal to guide their ALE component of this course.
Required student follow-up activities consist of:
- Student is to interview faculty in their discipline regarding available ALE experiences
- Student is to research student organizations and ALEs available through organizational activities within their discipline
- Student is to identify at least 3 ALEs of interest (search the web, talk to upper-classmen, go to the Departmental office)
- Student is to do a ‘tag-along’ to an existing ALE to get first-hand knowledge
- Student is to write a mini-paper summing their experiences
